Baby, Bee, Butterfly
Baby is in the garden.
What does Baby see?
Look! There’s a bee!
She’s busy, buzzing from flower to flower.
Bee drinks nectar and gathers pollen.
She helps feed many other bees.
Look! There’s a butterfly!
She’s lovely, fluttering from bloom to bloom.
She sips nectar just for her.
Listen! Bee and Butterfly are close.
Can you hear them, Baby?
“Hi! I’m a honey bee. I make honey,” says Bee.
“And I am Butterfly,” says Butterfly.
“She makes butter!” says Bee.
Butterfly smiles. “Oh, no. I make beauty. See?”
And she spreads her wings.
Baby claps in delight.
“Who are you?” they ask.
Baby laughs.
“You sound like a happy baby!” says Bee.
“A happy, beautiful baby,” says Butterfly.
Sunbeams and a gentle breeze play in the garden.
But Bee has work to do.
She visits the lavender flowers.
“Butterfly, won’t you stay?”
“Just for a moment, Baby.”
She fans her wings.
Something lands on Baby’s hand.
Look! It’s a ladybug! How lucky!
Her six tiny feet tickle. Baby giggles.
“Oh, excuse me,” says Ladybug.
"I thought you were a rose."
She flies to the rosebush to eat aphids.
A blur zigzags across the garden.
Look! It’s a dragonfly!
Dragonfly hovers nearby.
He is hunting for mosquitoes.
Zip! “Gotta goooooo!” says Dragonfly.
Baby’s tummy gurgles.
The sun slips toward the sea.
Baby reaches for Mama.
It’s time to leave.
Baby waves goodbye to Bee.
“Bye, bye, Bee.”
“Bye, bye, Baby!”
Bee buzzes away to her hive.
Baby waves goodbye to Butterfly.
“Bye, bye, Butterfly.”
“Goodbye, Baby."
Baby waves goodbye to Ladybug.
“Bye, bye, Ladybug.”
“Bye, Baby!”
Baby looks for Dragonfly,
but he zips across the garden
too fast to say goodbye.
After dinner and a bath, it’s time for bed.
Baby wants to look out the window instead.
What’s that?
Look! It’s a bat!
Swooping past the garden light,
Bat squeaks and says, “Goodnight!”
Baby waves and drifts off to dream
Of all the wonders Baby has seen.
