Too Much
There’s too much in this world
People rushing toward death unaware
Of life and the living
Dogs barking, growling, biting, howling
Killing cats killing birds
Fallen nests tangled tree limbs
Missing arms and legs
Burnt skin
War, declared, undeclared
You care
It doesn’t matter
It doesn’t stop
Cars, fumes, spills
Screens large, medium, small
Crashes, explosions
Abuse, rape, murder
Fire and flood
Blood everywhere
Sobbing, shouting
Loud LOUDER
Sharp SHARPER
Piercing, cutting
Assaulting my soul.
In the darkness
Uncertainty
The center may not hold
Calm or quiet
Not even compassion.
Progress isn’t progress
The body has no soul
The mind has no peace
Eyes and ears failing
Hearing not listening
Staring not seeing
Feeling too much
Not feeling anything at all.
